Apply for secured credit cards

Due to the purpose of secured credit cards, their nature is slightly different from the regular and unsecured credit cards. This also means that the requirements for applying secured credit cards are different from those for applying the unsecured ones. To apply for secured credit cards, it is recommended that the applicant first consider the home bank or the bank in which the applicant already has an account, such as savings or a checking account.

But if the home bank charges an application fee, it may be beneficial to look for other secured credit cards that do not charge an application fee. It is also advisable to compare annual fees when shopping for secured credit cards.

Once a particular secured credit card has been selected, the applicant will need to make a cash deposit. The cash deposit will serve as the collateral for the credit card and it also turns into a credit line. If the cash deposit is $300, the credit limit of the secured credit card is also $300. That is, the owner of the secured credit card can use the said card and charge up to $300. Some banks may increase the credit limit into a certain percentage above the deposited amount. Then, similar to other credit cards, the owner will receive monthly bills.
